Spacequake
Australian ESKHATON bush masters gave us this year almost shockingly startling "Nihilgoety" stuff which clearly aspires to my album of the year! The band not too well known in our country is subscribed to the excellent Nuclear Winter Records label what is the best step this band could do. I'm almost sure the band will soon excel at the cranial throne of occult blackened Death Metal. Let you shake the names as DENOUNCEMENT PYRE, CEMETERY URN, WITCHRIST, DIOCLETIAN, HERESIARCH, IGNIVOMOUS! Interestingly, the band does not include any member of an Australian more familiar band, they are new names full of rebelling anger and madness based on ancient spirituality azonei links! Over time I lost hope for this interview, now finally landed brief enough reply from Invokocide in our mailbox, but I am very glad to be able to realize that first ESKHATON interview.

Hello, yeah, you're pretty new band on the extreme metal scene, you have actually started last year and you have released "Nihilgoety" debut album this year. Could you introduce your band and what reason was behind your formation?
ESKHATON is a Death Metal band from Melbourne, Australia. We try and create psycho Death Metal with a dark suffocating atmosphere.

"Nihilgoety" album is out just a few months and many people don’t even know about you. How can you see your debut? Was it all created as you wanted? I think many fans will be totally absorbed into the abyss of madness by your production and music...
Yes we made the album how we wanted it. The LP version was re-mastered and has a thicker sound overall, without losing any high end attack, increasing the heaviness from the CD. Nihilgoety is a good start.

How long was writing process of “Nihilgoety"? Could you describe some more creating process of this amazing work?
It was a slow process until the arrival of HAMMERKILL on drums, where the writing process picked up pace. It took just over a year of writing and practice, but there is some stuff from much earlier (Spacequake and Exoverse Assassin). Focus is on evil, ferocity, chaos, horror, and doom moods.  Ultimate multiversal death. The end of all things, time and space. Total finality.

You have released it under the auspices of Nuclear Winter label. How did you get to them and how are you satisfied with their work?
NUCLEAR WINTER RECORDS fucking kill!  We contacted NWR and asked A.V if he wanted us to send the album to him.

It is evident even at first hearing, that your music is out of the box, scare, humiliation, degradation, despair, madness. Me personally, your debut is the best release of last time. How would you describe your music to someone who never heard ESKHATON or extreme Metal?
Psycho Death Metal. Influenced by bestial and oldschool death styles. Also a touch of black, thrash and doom, all done in a Death Metal way. It’s fucking death, ripping harsh intense evil. Never heard extreme metal? Fucking noise with screaming. Fuck Off!

Do you agree with me when I write that your music is very complex for listening and understanding? Many changing and thrilling riffs, one more devastating than the other, but always maintained atmosphere of horror and fear, difficult rhythmic drum maneuvers, melody swathed in unknown dimensions. I listen to your debut perhaps 20 times already and still can not say I know it all, I know only some more catching moments, but certainly one thing I know, I can hear such music again and again...
Nihilgoety has complex sections, there’s a mixture of complex and simple riffs, same with song structures. We don’t forsake simplicity.

As I wrote in my previous question, due to the strong complexity it is very difficult to understand your music, so I still must let some time to write review, I enjoy such inaccessible music which should be given plenty of time to understand. What kind of reactions did you get to your debut, or it is still too fresh to summarize?
It’s been mostly positive, but I don’t think many death fiends have heard it yet.

What evokes in you so much darkness, hatred, chaos, longing for death cult, that you are able to create so inhuman work? How do you perceive the world from your perspective?
Everything is dying. A futile struggle of survival for all life and existent space. No fucking rebirth.

Are all the songs that appeared on the debut the only songs you created as ESKHATON? Do you have a vision for your music? Do you think you may be somewhat progressive, or you have already found your style and now you will just create songs in the style of "Nihilgoety"?
Nihilgoety style, with a focus on increased evil intensity. We plan to always get more psycho. After recording Nihilgoety we started back into writing about 2 months later. We have more songs now. Getting back into it quickly, we kept the chaos flowing.

What are the most important elements for your music? Is it composition, complexity, barbarity or atmosphere? Have you ever tried to play slow riffs with the slow pace?
All of those things are important to us. Composition and intense riffing to make sure it has a dark atmosphere and a good flow. When we play slow, we play speed doom. There is some mid paced sections throughout the album.

Do you listen to your debut at home? Many bands say they can’t even listen to their albums from CD... How are you happy with your sound? Do you think sound may constitute an important component of the entire band? Do you think you have created your own sound?
The sound is very important. We want the shit to rip our fucking heads off. If we have created our own sound then it probably isn’t much different from another band out there somewhere, but we didn’t model our sound off any particular band. We want to be drowning in ear ripping, head fucking insanity! I’ll crank it at home once in a while.

When they say Australia, my mind is immediately equipped with great cult bands like CORPSE MOLESTATION/BESTIAL WARLUST and diSEMBOWELMENT which I know for many years, of course we can’t forget ABOMINATOR whether the current bands CEMETERY URN, DENOUNCEMENT PYRE, AETHYRVOROUS, PORTAL, IMPETUOUS RITUAL. Do you think Australian scene is strong? Which new discoveries would you recommend?
Apart from bands you mentioned, IGNIVOMOUS dark, crushing, monstrous Death and GRAVE UPHEAVAL cavernous, abyssal, ritualistic Death. Australia’s strength is in the shit ton of bands it’s provided that kill.

What is your view at new CD from MORBID ANGEL if you have already heard it? Are you a fan of this band?
The three of us are fans of MORBID ANGEL, Altars of Madness. With the new album, it made me laugh from confusion, what the fuck happened? There are only a few tracks that are the later typical MORBID ANGEL style. Our other guitarist WHIRLWINDEAD and I caught them live at Melbourne in 2009. It was a killer show from them, they played all of Altars, and various tracks from the D.V period. Before they played though, fuck! We got bombarded with some shit slamming tick tock, doof doof, whatever, for fucking half an hour. Looking back on that part, waiting for the band to come on, it was an ominous sign.

Where do you find inspiration for your work in general?
Extreme metal, destructive forces and Death Deity’s.

Could you disclose your lyrics component? Who is responsible for the lyrics on "Nihilgoety"?
INVOKOCIDE.

Are you interested in the original Australian mythology? If so, could you say some interesting facts about this topic? When they say Australia, everyone usually imagine your native tribes of Aborigines, or special fauna, bush...
No.

What about touring in Australia? Do you have the possibility to play many gigs? What do the concerts actually mean to you? Do you take them like a ritual? Would you like to play outside of Australia?
We haven’t played any shows yet. There’s been an issue with a full lineup since day one. It got to the point where we decided to get the album done no matter what. The live shows will come soon. We want to play overseas at some stage if we’re able.

What is the life in Australia? Don’t you feel on this continent like cut off from the world? Nonetheless, it is the smallest continent in the large Indian Ocean; on the other hand it can also be an advantage...
Metal, beers, bongs… There’s extreme weather at times, deadly creatures mainly in the bush land. In a way, yes we’re cut off in Oz, it’s far between cities.

Ok, that would be all on my part. If I forgot something important, you have the space. Thank you for this interview and wish ESKHATON only what you really want, Horns Up!
Death to existent space. All forms drawn to infinite nothing, self devoured. Death to your fucking spirit realm. HAIL SATAN CUNTS.
